NTLM is a silent authentication method used by Microsoft Windows, so once squid has been configured  and a machine running windows NT/2K/XP with Internet Explorer 5+ is used to access the squid proxy server, the client information (username) is taken from behind the scenes, if someone outside of the domain trys to access the proxy server they need to enter a username mydomain\username.

Function: proxy caching server for web clients

I'm trying to make my squid proxy server authenticate against my windows 2003 domain controller so people internet use can be monitored via squid. For this example my domain will be.

'windows.server.int' & my domain controller machine name will be mc1

HAVP (HTTP AntiVirus proxy) is a proxy with an anti-virus filter. It does not cache or filter content and in this how-to it is set as a parent proxy of squid, i can be run on it's own.

Squid1-ntlm - DansGuardian - Squid2-cache PDF Print E-mail
User Rating: / 0
Written by Paul Matthews

This howto is so you can setup two instances of squid, one running the NTLM authentication process & one running  the Cache process. The way it will work is when a website request first comes into the Proxy server it will get the required authentication from the first instance of squish running the NTLM authentication process then it will be passed onto DansGuardian for content filtering and if it passes the DansGuardian check then it will be passed onto the second instance of squid for cacheing.
