Hi Everyone!

I know it’s been a while since you all last hear from me so I thought I’d send you all an e-mail telling you what’s been going on with OpenSourceHowTo.Org. The truth is, not a lot has been going on with OpenSourceHowTo.Org, I still check in with it every couple of days but I just haven’t have the resources (Time, spare PC’s to run tests on, a home, I was couch surfing for a while and unfortunately I no longer work in a place that I can easy setup my own linux box to run my tests on) so I haven’t added a lot of new work.

But I’ve been waiting for all of you to add some stuff!!! Remember you can add your own how-to’s!!!

Adsense Banned me!
Written by Paul Matthews

Well everyone as I'm sure you can see from the lack of ads on my website, Adsense banned me

'Hello Paul Kyle Matthews,

Your AdSense account was found to be related to an account previously disabled for invalid click activity and we have therefore disabled your account. Publishers disabled for invalid click activity are not allowed further participation in AdSense and do not receive any further payment. The earnings on your account will be properly returned to the affected advertisers.'

I didn't do anything wrong, but apparently someone with my name has done something wrong in the past,or maybe this domain was used for something in the past, I don't know, but I don't care either! I hate Adsense, I hate Google! I tried sooo hard not to do anything wrong! I made posts all over the web, on the Adsense Google group, I made offical requests to adsense to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong and I still got canned!

I have just heard soo many horror stories about accounts getting canceled without any notice that I really wanted to keep on my toes about this, but I guess it just wasn't enough! well I just dont' care, I only made like $60 in 5 months anyway! All I wanted to do was pay my hosting fee's but Google is just F*#ked!

Have you ever wondered how many different Linux Distributions there are & what they all are, well I'm not sure if this website has them all, but it's got most of them.

All the big ones are there, Smoothwall, Fedora, Ubuntu as well as all the smaller ones that most people have never heard of like VideoLinux, crux & coyot & it's even got a bunch of BSD's like truDSB, FreeBSD & NetBSD.

PC, Mac... meet Linux
Written by Paul Matthews

Hi all,

I just found this really cool link, it's a novel rip off of the Mac ads.

http://www.novell.com/linux/meetlinux/

Although i've got to admit it'd be better if they used a hotter chick or someone famous like Mac did. Maybe they could have made Jessica Alba the fact of Linux! Novel would have had my respect then!

Of course it's been added to youtube. There are actually a whole bunch of Linux/Mac/PC/BSD ads on this persons account.

I love the gaming one! Linux has a really cool line at the end of it. The best ones are from 'TrueNuff'.

You're Programming communism!
Written by Paul Matthews

I found this awesome picture using StumbleUpon and I just wanted to show everyone check it out

I think if Microsoft had have been around at the peek of the cold war this probably would have been one of the ads they would have run. It's almost as believable as the 'get the facts' ads they are trying to push on us at the moment.

After hospital
Written by Paul Matthews

Hi everyone! Well I know I haven’t been around a lot lately but I’ve been in hospital, hopefully everything is going to get back to normal now.

Now for OpenSourceHowTo.Org related news, I’ve scrapped the idea of the security images, they were simply not allowing people to sign up, so I’ve gone back to just needing to verify the e-mail address, anyone that has signed up and not been able to log in that should now be working. If you have any problems then you can reset your password here.

http://www.opensourcehowto.org/component/option,com_registration/Itemid,0/task,lostPassword/

User howto’s are finally being enable and I really want everyone to take up the opportunity to submit some of there own information and hopefully really help the Open Source community with what you have learnt. If anyone has any problems submitting there how-to please e-mail me or contact me using the ‘contact us’ forum found in the link below.

http://www.opensourcehowto.org/component/option,com_contact/Itemid,3/

Don’t forget the blogs are here too! So if you have something you want to say, if you’ve found a really cool project you want to talk about, if you’ve written a script you want to share or if you have found an interesting website that you think can help people, talk about it in your blog! Once you sign up/sign into OpenSourceHowTo.Org you should have a bunch of new options on the home page allowing you to submit howto’s & blogs. If you want to know how to post your own how-to follow this how-to here

User Content Is Here!!
Written by Paul Matthews

Hi everyone!

I've been trying to get some forum of user driven content working for ages now! I really want to get the OpenSourceHowTo.Org users involved in creating content.

I want to be able to let you all post your own how-to's at one stage, but for now I've managed to get a blog system working! So now users can create there own blogs & comment on other people blogs at OpenSourceHowTo.Org.

I'm really looking forward to seeing some of my users start making a  contribution to OpenSourceHowTo.Org.

I'm going to make it a new sub-domain along with

wiki.opensourcehowto.org

google.opensourcehowto.org

forum.opensourcehowto.org (still working on this one)
